BEDROCK LABORATORY: Yampah Mountain High School

Students of Yampah Mountain High School join us on our off-grid campus and living laboratory for hands on demonstrations in farming, permaculture and hydro electricity techniques. Enjoy visual explanations of geological history dating back before dinosaurs, and an opportunity to view dark sky astronomy that native cultures use in daily life.

Nestled in a serene valley near Boulder, Utah, the Bedrock Homestead—operated by hosts Grant and Gina—sits on the last proved-up homestead in the lower 48 states. It is grandfathered directly into the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, just a short drive from Capitol Reef National Park and the Dixie National Forest. The land surrounding the homestead offers a glimpse into millions of years of geological history, defined by towering stand-alone boulders, deep red slick rock canyons, and the flowing waters of the Aquarius Plateau.
